Anne Hunter

I grew up following my mother through the fields and swamps of South Florida, in the company of birders, who knew the names of the trees, plants, insects and animals around us.

I have always been drawing. After college I worked illustrating all kind of things from natural history to editorial to sticker design, in newspapers and magazines, advertising and educational material. In 1996 I wrote and illustrated my first picture book, Possum’s Harvest Moon, which became a Publisher’s Weekly Flying Start and is still in print(!). I love picture books as a forum for education, humor, beauty, story, and personally, to open doors onto the amazing natural world.

Now I live in Vermont, in a lovely valley between the Green and Taconic Mountains, with my husband and son. My husband has an organic vegetable farm that you can see here: In the spring and summer, I help out around the farm. Fall and winter, I work in my studio doing a variety of illustrating, painting, woodcarving, and other design, some of which can be seen under the Other Work menu heading.

Please feel free to contact me with any thoughts or comments, and check back for upcoming projects. Thanks!
